Testimonials

See what some customers had to say:

Dave has looked after me for at least 10 years. Four years prior to having a knee replacement, I was able to carry on working. Without his care there is no doubt that I would have been unable to do so on a full time basis. Since then Dave has continued to care for my arthritic joints. He has a very calm manner and is able to install confidence in the client, even if the treatment is sore! When a problem is perhaps making slower progress than expected, Dave will always ask colleagues for specialist advice if he is struggling with a case. If an appointment is for an hour, hands on treatment will last that long. Dave always keeps up to date with good and new practice, attending courses on a regular basis. I would and do, highly recommend Dave as a specialist sports and injury specialist.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage

What is a sports massage?

Sports massage is a type of massage therapy which utilises deep tissue techniques, with the aim of reducing muscular tension, discomfort and pain.

Reasons to have a sports massage

Deep Tissue Sports massage techniques can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as:

  • Muscular and joint injuries such as sprains and strains
  • Postural related pain
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash
  • Golfers and tennis elbow
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Back pain

Typically, sports massage techniques are fast-paced and incorporate stretching and compression movements.

A sports massage therapist will use a variety of deep tissue techniques throughout a treatment which involve longitudinal stripping, friction techniques, tapotement and muscle energy techniques such as PNF stretching, active movement and trigger point compression.

Benefits of therapeutic sports massage

The following benefits can be experienced through the application of sports and deep tissue massage techniques:

  • Reduction in muscle tension, muscular pain and discomfort
  • Increased range of motion, leading to enhanced performance
  • Decreased muscle stiffness and soreness after exercise or physical activity
  • Reduced recovery time post injury
  • Increased levels of relaxation and reduction in physical and psychological stress levels
  • Aids sleep quantity and quality

Shockwave Therapy

What is a Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, or ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic (sound) waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissues. It is commonly used by therapist in the UK to treat chronic tendon and soft tissue issues, such as plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy.

How Shockwave Therapy Works

Acoustic Waves

A handheld probe applies mechanical (not electrical) sound waves through the skin directly to the painful area.

Cellular Response

The waves help to break down scar tissue and calcifications, increase blood circulation and stimulate the body's natural tissue repair process.

Pain Reduction

Shockwave Therapy can desensitise nerve fibres, offering relief from chronic pain.

Conditions Improved by Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy is typically only recommended when symptoms have persisted for at least 3-6 months and have not responded to standard conservative treatments such as ice or analgesia.

Common conditions treated by Shockwave Therapy include:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Tennis or Golfer's elbow
  • Rotator cuff (shoulder) problems
  • Patellar tendinopathy (Jumper's Knee)

What to expect during treatment?

Sessions

A standard course of treatment requires 3 - 5 sessions, usually spaced about 1 week apart.

Duration

Each session is quick, taking roughly 10 to 30 minutes.

Sensation

You may feel a slight "tapping" or "rubber band snap" sensation, which can feel more intense over the exact area of injury.
